A Lifetime of Protective Coatings
It all started back in the 50's when, Lawrence Smedley graduated from Carnegie Mellon as a civil engineer. Shortly, thereafter the family passion for environmental and protective coatings, emerged. His role was to design and fabricated steel linings. Eventually the steel industry died in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region, resulting in the family moving to New Jersey. Where he continued his craft with a company, who's headquarter's was located in NYC.
By the early 1970's, he looked to expand his operations to include his son, of which help him with his interest in epoxy coatings, and various other protective coatings and linings. This grew into an interest in the protective concrete industry. Using their polymer resins background to complete virtually any concrete repair, one might imagine.
In the mid 1980's Jeffrey was introduced into the business as a sub contractor installing many food processing floors, chemical process floors, as well as other types of resinous flooring, to include restaurant flooring,epoxy flooring, mma flooring, as well as many urethane systems. Jeffrey founded a company named Mid Atlantic Technical Services. Ultimately, he sold his interests and started another operation by the name of, High Performance Systems Corporation.
By 2007, his son Stephen Smedley had graduated from West Virginia University, and he is currently cultivating his love and passion for the coating industry.
He is the third generation, with his participation HPS can proudly boast not only years of experience, but they have become a big part of the landscape in food process flooring, chemical processing floors, pharmaceutical flooring, as well as virtually any concrete repair that you might think of in the northeast and sun belt regions.
Their staff is factory trained and they spend many hours learning the industry's needs and performing them with a deep sense of pride. This is the reason they have been so successful for many years installing resinous flooring and epoxy flooring. Learning to install a product is an important phase of what they do, but learning to understand and resolve customer's concerns is what helps them develop such a strong following.
As a company, they value education and to that extent, are constantly pursuing continuing education for the staff to maintain that cutting edge approach to a client's needs.

Jeffrey Smedley has been in the protective coatings industry his entire life. At the age of 50 he is currently president of High Performance Systems Corporation. HPS serves the entire eastern USA. They specialize in the food processing, chemical processing, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.
