On November 19 2007, Yumiko Takeshima opened her first YUMIKO Dance & Fitness Wear STORE in NEW YORK CITY.
The store concept offers a clean, well-lit, minimalist, and modern space for you to clearly view YUMIKO products and to inspire creativity when customizing your own special pieces. The store's futuristic and forward thinking design was designed by architect Oliver Breuninger of Rietmann. Breuninger Architekten from Dresden, Germany, working closely with founders Yumiko Takeshima and Mark Mahler.
Our assignment was to correct the flooring in this state of the art dance wear studio. Yumiko needed to get their business going in a hurry back in 2007. As a result, they hired a flooring contractor that in fact did apply an epoxy flooring system, but did not treat the seams in the subfloor, leaving the substrate uneven. This was particular troubling given the high quality of both the apparel and it's clientele. In October of 2009, we came in and ground the flooring smooth filled the voids and treated the joints prior to installing; Duraflex's 60 mil epoxy self leveling slurry, and two topcoats of Duragard's Poly Thane 2 to create a long lasting and durable finish in keeping with the stores image.
